The longing for, and need of, travelling across Öresund is probably almost as old as time itself. But what started as a risky journey in single wooden logs eventually transcended into power-driven ferries – efficient, punctual and safe, but not entirely environmentally friendly.
The two battery-powered ferries are the first step on our sustainability journey for an even better ferry route. We will not settle with the destinations Helsingborg and Helsingør, we are sailing towards zero emissions and towards the future too. It is important that the blue road remains, for a vibrant, expansive region where people can meet and businesses can grow and prosper. Today and for future generations.
In 2018, ForSea transported more than 7 million passengers, 1.3 million cars, 450,000 trucks and 16,000 buses, corresponding to around 20% of the vehicles crossing Öresund. Passengers can shop onboard at attractive prices, dine at the ferries’ restaurants and cafés or enjoy activities such as jazz concerts among other things.
ForSea offers both permanent and temporary positions ashore and at sea, and all employees contribute on a daily basis to creating great experiences for our passengers. We employ 750 staff in positions within customer service, as navigators, engineers, ship assistants, electricians, waiters, cooks, shop assistants etc. We look for new, skilled employees on an ongoing basis – and you can see vacancies or send us an unsolicited application here!
ForSea operates a sustainable ferry route, deploying state-of-the art technology to lessen the impact on the environment, while constantly striving to strengthen regional integration around Øresund.
From 2007, the ferries on the route were the first to comply with SECA emission rules, which became mandatory in 2015. In addition, the group continuously works to reduce CO2 emissions and reduce the ferry operations’ impact on the marine environment to the benefit of the Øresund region. ForSea has initiated the introduction of battery operation on the two ferries Tycho Brahe and Aurora to further reduce the ferries’ environmental impact.
ForSea and the ferry route furthermore contribute to the local community on both sides of Øresund, generating jobs and supporting cultural, educational and business life.
